Mah Boon Krong (MBK Center)

MBK Public Company Limited (“the Company”) was founded and registered on 25 July 1974 originally under the name of Mah Boon Krong Drying and Silo Company Limited which managed a shopping center called “Mah Boon Krong Shopping Center”.  The shopping center has been open to the public since 7 February 1985.  The Company first became a listed company on the Stock Exchange of Thailand in 1978, thanks to the efforts by the Company’s original team of management.  However, the Company became delisted in 1987.

Afterwards, the Company was managed by a new team of management and its name was changed from “Mah Boon Krong Drying and Silo Company Limited” to “MBK Property & Development Company Limited”.  Later on 8 April 1994, it was transformed into a public limited company under the name of “MBK Property & Development Public Company Limited”.  It became a listed company again on the Stock Exchange of Thailand on 5 April 1996.  It became a listed company again on the Stock Exchange of Thailand on 5 April 1996, using “MBK–PD” as abbreviated name for trading.  The trading of its common shares on the Stock Exchange of Thailand commenced on 24 April 1996.

On 20 November 2002, the Company changed its name from “MBK Property & Development Public Company Limited” to “MBK Development Public Company Limited”.  Later on 10 November 2003, it changed its name again from “MBK Development Public Company Limited” to “MBK Public Company Limited” (“MBK”).  As well, its abbreviated name for trading was changed from ‘MBK-PD” to ‘MBK” which is still being used today.

Jim Thompson House

Jim Thompson House is a house belong to the late James H.W. Thomson who came to Thailand as an officer in the US forces during World War II. When he war ended, he decided to settle in the Kingdom. 

During his stay, Thompson become interested in traditional Thai textiles, and being trained as an architect, tie used his talent to create new designs and colour schemes for his textiles. The name Jim Thompson become synonymous with Thai silk after he intro?duced the traditional silk to the international market. He had arranged for dismantling of ancient teak houses from various places and reassembled them on the bank of Sansap Canal in Bangkok, today known as Jim Thompson's House. He myster?iously disappeared during a visit to the Cameron Highlands in Malaysia in 1967, leaving behind him his house of historical value as his memorial in Thailand. 

Ban Thai Museum: Apart from Thompson's splendid art collection and personal belongings exhibited here, the rooms were arranged to reflect the life of Thai people in former times. The garden, featuring various native Thai flowers, is maintained in a natural way and to reflect Thai art and living culture.

Situated on Phahon Yothin Road in the south side of Chatuchak Park, this market offers an enormous variety of goods, from second-hand books, handicrafts and products from all regions of Thailand, silk and antiques to fresh products, accessories, ceramics, plants, and even pets in this market of around 14 hectares, there are approximately 15,000 stalls.                 Under the bridge, there is a night bazaar that attracts merchants to set up stalls from 8 pm. to midnight. All kinds of goods are on sale here such as accessories, clothes, dolls and home décor items.

                The highlight here is secondhand items ranging from clothes, shoes to numerous used books. Portrait drawing and body tattooing services are also available. Saphan Phut bazaar is open everyday except Monday. Whilst walking across to the other side through King Rama I Monument, we witness flower vendors arranging flowers and making garlands and people both locals and foreigners shopping for flowers of choice. This shows that we have arrives at the sleepless flower market.

Yaowarat (China Town)

At Gate1, the exit of Hua Lamphong underground train station, you take a three-wheel-motor taxi to Yaowarat. When passing Odean roundabout, you get off the taxi at Texas alley. Here is the venue of various restaurants and food vendors. If you walk into Phadung Dao Street, there is ancient Texas Sukiyaki restaurant. Walk to the next lane, Yaowaphanit, there you’ll see a number of seafood restaurants and vendors in the colourfully striking neon signs. Although you are now very full, it’s not time to sleep. We are taking a three-wheel motor taxi to a night bazaar which is not far from Yaowarat.
